Vajrasattva Confession puja on Fri 8th Jan 2026

It has become an annual tradition in recent years that we, as a local group, have held a Vajrasattva Confession puja on the first meeting back together in a new year.
As per my last email this will be held on Friday 9th January starting at 7pm at the Friend’s Meeting house, Bridge Street, King’s Lynn.
We are pleased that Viryashalin has agreed to lead this puja once again for us.
The puja will be a beautiful session of purification for the greater good of all, and the start of a New Year – a traditional time to make resolutions, is a auspicious time to look inwards and reflect on our will to follow the precepts as best we can.

Vajrasattva is a Bodhisattva that symbolises primordial purity. Meditating on him helps us to purify the mind of greed, hatred and delusion. At his heart he holds a vajra thunderbolt which represents his skill in liberating beings by means of compassion.
At his waist he holds a bell that represents wisdom.

Don’t be put off by the term ‘confession’ – but rather think along the lines of ‘losing’ unskillful habits and ‘gaining’ or building upon more skillful habits and behaviours.
This will be a private process for yourself – there will be no verbal declarations. It may be helpful to note a few lines of the habits you wish to lose or develop on paper. These can then be ritually offered up onto the purifying flames of transformation as we circumambulate a small fire that will be set up in the courtyard. (So wrap up warm for this part of the puja!)

We will be chanting the long Vajrasattva mantra in Sanskrit – the mantra of 100 syllables.(Don’t worry – no-one expects you to know this perfectly – we learn by repetition)

oṃ vajrasattva samayam
anupālaya
vajrasattva tvenopatiṣṭha
dṛḍho me bhava
sutośyo me bhava
supośyo me bhava
anurakto me bhava
sarva siddhiṃ me prayaccha
sarva karma su ca me
cittaṃ śreyaḥ kuru hūṃ
ha ha ha ha hoḥ
bhagavan sarva tathāgatavajra
mā me muñca
vajrī bhava mahā samaya sattva
āḥ (hūṃ phaṭ)

(Translation – oṃ

O Vajrasattva honour the agreement!
Reveal yourself as the vajra-being!
Be steadfast for me!
Be very pleased for me!
Be fully nourishing for me!
Be passionate for me!
Grant me all success and attainment!
And in all actions make my mind more lucid!
hūṃ
ha ha ha ha hoḥ
O Blessed One, vajra of all those in that state, don’t abandon me!
O being of the great contract be a vajra-bearer!
āḥ)

It would be lovely to see friends at this event – both old and new – all are welcome!

MEDITATION

To take up meditation is to introduce a powerful force for change into your life. If you change your mind, then the world around you changes too.

Meditation is a known antidote to stress, a way to become calmer, more mindful and more emotionally positive. Over time it can fundamentally transform how we understand ourselves and the world around us.

We teach two meditation practices: the mindfulness of breathing, which enhances our awareness and peace of mind; and the Metta bhavana – the development of loving kindness – which brings about a gentle but potentially radical transformation in our emotional experience.

We teach meditation as part of our existing Tuesday evenings. I also offer an introduction to meditation course once a year at the Friends Meeting House when there are enough people interested.

Please email me to express interest

Wednesday Evening Meditation (7-9pm)

This class is suitable for those who are familiar with the Triratna system of meditation and are able to guide themselves in meditation. It offers the opportunity to have longer ‘sits’ and to get some input on how you can work more effectively in meditation. Sinhadevi leads this class at The Friends Meeting House in King’s Lynn.

This session is not running over the summer but will be reintroduced in the autumn.
