Buddhism
Greater clarity, wisdom and compassion
BUDDHISM, or more accurately the ‘Buddha-Dharma’ (the Way and Teaching of the Buddha) is unlike any other religion and is arguably not a religion at all, there being no God at its core.
The ‘Buddha-Dharma’ is derived from the teachings of a man whom lived in Northern India/Nepal some 2500 years ago who strove to see beyond the constraints and wrong views of the prevailing religions of his time and, in doing so, achieved a level of consciousness at which a great clarity, wisdom and compassion arose. This state of ‘Enlightenment’, he said, is achievable by everyone.
Only in the last 100 years has ‘Buddhism’ come to the west and been translated and understood in Western form. This process is continuing to evolve as this way of life encounters the constantly changing and challenging modern world. There are now many ‘schools’ of Buddhism. Each with different practices and emphases based on a common core of the Buddha’s teaching.
